Friday Travel Dreaming – 11/22/13

Woohoo, it’s Friday, and that means it’s time for this week’s edition of Friday Travel Dreaming!

HTTFF cover 300px wideThe biggest news of the week for us was the announcement of the new, expanded and updated version our book, How to Travel for Free (or pretty damn near it). We’ve added completely new information and resources for traveling as close to free as possible, plus additional tips and methods we’ve found and have been using in the past couple of years. The new section on credit card churning for free airline tickets alone makes this book more than worth it. Other new content includes things like Camping in Accommodations and Crowdfunding in Creative Ways to Travel. The PDF download version is already available, and the print and Kindle versions are coming soon, definitely in time for Christmas shopping season – hint hint! 🙂

5 Countries to Visit for Under $500

Colombia“One of the biggest misconceptions of international travel is that most people cannot afford it.  While there are certainly places in the world that are difficult to travel to without a six-figure salary, there are also plenty of others where just about anyone can go…>Looking away from the typical North American and European vacations, one can find other regions around the world where it’s not only possible, but rather easy, to travel on the cheap.  Many travelers can get away for a week, and sometimes two, for under $500US for the on-the-ground expenses..”

A web site that allows users to buy and sell hotel reservations

hotel roomNonrefundable hotel rates can be great, but they’re often the downfall of the thrifty traveler. Roomer is doing its best to combat cancellation fees and nontransferable dates. While cheaper rates can be alluring, there is almost nothing more maddening than paying for a room you are not sleeping in owing to circumstances beyond your control. And if you are a budget traveler looking for a great deal on a hotel room it looks like the rates you can get on Roomer are like 20-30% cheaper than what you can get on discount reservation sites like Hotels.com.
