World’s Cheapest Cities for Travelers

Quito, Ecuador

Quito, Ecuador

This was our favorite travel story this week. A really great resource that outlines the cheapest places in the world, places where you can travel and stay for an unbelievable small amount of money. Not only that, but some of our favorite places to travel are at the top of this list! Pokhara and Kathmandu, Nepal? Chiang Mai, Thailand or Goa, India? How about Quito, Ecuador — a place we just visited in July? Yes, please! These are all really wonderful places we have enjoyed and spent time in, all at very low costs.

Be a Packing Genius

This good story from Budget Travel gives a slideshow with step by step photos on how you can pack like a rock star for your next trip.

Travel for Free with Pudding

Could you travel for free with pudding? This week’s wackiest, and coolest, story was about  an Engineer who earned 1.25 Million Air Miles just buying pudding. Maybe extreme, but the guy continues to rack up more miles than he can ever use with inventive methods, and he’s traveling the world for free with his millions of miles. He’s still earning miles at about 5 times faster than he’s spending them, despite traveling quite often, thanks to various frequent flyer incentive programs he keeps an eye out for and exploits just like the pudding scheme. Today, he has over 4 million miles in his various accounts and has flown to over 20 countries and taken numerous vacations in the meantime. An inspiration for us all!

About Shelley Seale

I'm Shelley, a journeyer and learner of the world, freelance journalist and author, yoga chick and dog lover. I pound the keyboard from home barefoot every day, and while my boss is demanding she also occasionally lets me have the early afternoon cocktail. I think not going into an office or collecting corporate paychecks are very good ideas, though not always profitable. I have written for National Geographic, USA Today, The Guardian, Texas Monthly and CNN, among others. Neither the New York Times nor Johnny Depp have answered my letters yet. I love yoga, indie movies, wine, and books, though not necessarily in that order. I believe in karma. Mean people suck. If I could have any dream job I would like to be a superhero. I have performed a catch on the flying trapeze, boarded down a live volcano and was once robbed by a monkey in Nepal. But, I don't know how to whistle. My mantra is "travel with a purpose."
